Seeing is Believing as Unemployment Sweeps Across the Nation

Unemployment is being covered extensively these days, but it’s difficult to describe in words the severity of the problem. Today a moving time-lapse image of joblessness growing across the US map like a cancer really hammers the point home. Unemployment seems more like it’s on a slippery slope with each passing day. Viewing this graphic presentation seems akin to a watching pandemic sweeping across the nation.

The image shows unemployment rates at the county level and how quickly they have been increasing, nearly doubling from 4.5 percent in 2007 to 8.5 percent in 2009, and in seeing the problem spread the extent of the economic disintegration becomes palpable.

The moving graphic entitled, The Decline: The Geography of a Recession, came to our attention via The Daily Bail, and is available here.
