Bread and circuses
My musings this week on Rome and Nazi Germany have managed to converge. Dave Lindorff at the lefty site Counterpunch notes that Foleygate serves as a distraction from far more important matters — especially the repeal of habeas corpus included in the Military Commissions Act of 2006.
And all this time I thought reality TV was our equivalent of Roman circuses. Turns out, in the autumn of 2006, the circuses are on the news channels, endlessly discussing our leaders' acts of perversion with teenagers, rather than their acts of subversion against our fundamental freedoms.
