Me I just don't give a damn anymore. If the greedy rats want to keep gambling with everybody that is fool enough to play AND those of us that just want to stay on the sidelines and enjoy life and be content. The problem is the way the game is rigged everybody is pulled along with it. Its like one huge runaway train that no one can stop and no one can get off. Such a pity.

Bill,

Can you answer me how the inflation will happen? Or is all this fiat currency just replacing all the market losses creating just a redistribution of wealth to government entities?

Drew, I think the article mentions that you CAN'T fix the problem with problems...

Smoothing out the sharp declines would seem necessary, however, the lack of simple firings... if not outright attempts at fraud prosecution... for the wheeler-dealer types shows me that indeed, things wont be better. The lack of outright impeachments and recall of the politicians-in-cahoots, if not the leveling of serious indictments, in my opinion, shows me that indeed, there is nothing the government is willing to REALLY do to correct this calamity.
Go ahead. Buy stocks. Go ahead, hedge with bonds. To each his own. For me it's Gold, Silver, Whiskey, Cigarettes and a hedge of oil stock.

To my Health!

As the "Empire of Debt" transforms into the "Empire of Deleveraging and Debt Repayment" we will go through a period of stagflation, higher unemployment and bankruptcies. All of us, in the Western World will have our work cut out for us. The days of non-discretionary consumption are over. We can no longer tolerate partisan politics, nor can we live with the short-term decisions CEO's who manage huge corporations make everyday. We need a long-term plan, a vision. But before we can draft a blueprint of our future, we need to evalate where we are. This is a stock-market rally based on hope that things will be the same, even though everything has already changed forever. Our best days can be ahead of us, but to get there, we need a new plan.

Well, I just made my contribution to paying down debt, or at least not spending more, I voted no on Prop 1A. It should be interesting watching California collapse, I have my popcorn ready.

Doesn't this entire article skim the border of the real reason stimulus packages are implemented?

There was no intent to fix a problem with the economy or pretend they know how money is better spent by allocating resources into black hole investments.

The aim is to make sure the stagnation of the economy doesn't cause such large deflation and contraction that a larger impact is felt by complete and utter lack of confidence in the market.

By perpetuating the markets ability to intake extra capital for a longer period of time it can 'smoothen out' the sharp declines until most people are able to put their fears to the side that they cannot invest or be part of the market.

Just because the banks were part of fraudulent enterprise and made fiscal gains in numerous immoral and unorthodox ways does not mean that they aren't part of the solution to what could have been a major disaster.

With the increase in risk people are willing to take in conjunction with larger volumes of capital investment available and the confidence in 'too large to fail' systems at least the economy has been given a fighting chance. I didn't see this article really addressing alot of what I expect from the daily reckoning and it was disappointing.
