If cash for clunkers brings a glut of late 80′s and 90′s cars to an early retirement, maybe the junk yards of America would see wisdom in supporting railway rehab which of course brings on vastly increased call on steel scrap for rail and track hardfware.

We have been taught to consume the snake oil sold in the marketplace…that’s all it is, snake oil…no matter what high sounding money names are given for the toilet paper (some quite, used) sold by the financial houses and banks over the years…..
There is no free lunch.
And, I agree with the comments about our “freedoms” and Consitution…..We have forgotten what is important.

We continue to buy the snake oil…
(Until we run the people selling that junk “out of town,” send them to prison, or outright hang them!)

Well Joseph’s plan did feed the Egyptians, but he sold their grain back to them at high prices. After the 7 lean years, Pharaoh owned everything (except the priest’s land I think).
Perhaps this is what the current powers that be want.
While the Egyptians had fields and livestock as their wealth, our wealth as Americans is our freedom and our Constitution with it’s Declaration of Independence. What do you own that is more valuable than your God given liberties?
The average American’s situation may be more exactly compared to Esau than to Joseph if we are to look to the Bible (always a good place to start!) I fear we are very close to trading our birthright as a free people for the soup bowl of government handouts

A friend of mine is getting ready to buy a junkyard business. Sounds like it would be a good business to get into during an extended recession/depression, WRONG.

With the new, “Stimulus” existing junkyards will be finding their once valuable inventory near worthless as the auto graveyards will be heaping up with cash for clunker parts. Another industry ruined by government manipulation. My friends timing could have been horrible had he closed on the deal earlier and built up his inventory. He may want to rethink the whole idea.
