CARS were a fraud only if the decisionmakers got into office by fraud. In fact they were voted into office. Get them people what them people deserve.

Larry Kudlow's reasoning is mystifying at best. I've written him off as a cheerleader for anything he can construe as bullish. He seems to be able to construe just about anything as bullish. I can't distinguish any degree of critical thinking on his part.

Simple solution to envigorate lazy consumers who are greedily saving and paying off debt instead of spending and spending like everyone knows they should: Raise the minimum wage to $50/hr.

In the meantime, lets send Kudlow to break Bloomer's windows.

Why hasn't government thought of this before now? Borrow money and give it to voters. Everyone will be enriched! Oh, they have done it before. Everyone ended up in the poor house.

If you look the U.S military complex it is all about building weapons and machinery then later blowing them up. In doing so, it provides jobs and revenue for the defense industry.
The cash for clunkers program is similar in that it also creates jobs and revenue, but is more efficient in that a consumer is left with a newer car that is cheaper to run because it burns less fuel. The sooner Americans can reduce their addiction to foreign oil, the better off they will be.

The Broken Window fallacy never ceases to amaze me with its persistence. It doesn't take any education or particular intelligence to spot the flaw (seen vs. unseen). Yet it is constantly invoked throughout the centuries after every act of senseless destruction, whether natural (Katrina) or man-made (CARS). Those who make the argument may be forgiven; they are merely trying to coat their self-interest with a veneer of public service. But it is harder to forgive those who swallow the explanation.

The fallacy is so simple it could be exploded by a child of five. Therefore, somebody please fetch Larry Kudlow a child of five.

(apologies to G. Marx)

The mal-investment being created by subsidizing select bankrupt industries and financial services at the expense of prudent/efficient/successful businesses give me a really bad gut reaction. The more I hear that is being "fixed" the more my gut has me on edge. In all my experience in my life my gut has been right on this time will be no different. As a brave new hero recently said, "Brace for impact."
