Either one of these is going to happen:

1) The US will lower its life standards dramatically in the near future;

2) WW III.

One of the two is inevitable. Possibly both.

Mr Bob Dylan used to say: "when you got a lot of forks and knives, you gotta cut something". Look at the US "defense" (or shoud we say "offense"?) budget:

The bigest pile of forks and knives in the history of mankind. And the US is going hungry, dorothy...

Odd that we forget -

How many years America forgave debts of the global nations/states?

Remember America holding UN funding hostage?

Perhaps we are calling our chips?

Is the US playing the Chinese or is it the other way around? Let us say that the US defaults on the bonds and the Chinese loss their US holdings. Who would come out ahead? The party who defaults or the party that losses the holdings? Who as a better balance sheet? Are the Chinese in a winner, winner situation here? Would the up and coming continue to come up when the one on the top defaults? The Chinese don't need to force a hand. They can just let this whole situation play out and let what ever happens to the US debt happen.
