Nathan,

I would be interested in your opinion regarding Japan's stagnant and aging population. If you read Mark Stein's America Alone, you will see his conclusion, which I partly agree with, that no population growth and an ageing work force can have some of the same effects.

What, pray tell, motivated the Japanese government to raise taxes in the first place? The article notes the action, but not the motivation.

@BSokolich
"why haven’t they sold their vast holding of USDebt to fund public works or offset taxes?"

because doing to would cause their currency to rise DRAMATICALLY thus totally ruining their export industry. It is Japan that has been exploiting the US, not the other way around

Just a note on>: Roosevelt,..(who) raised taxes throughout the 1930s and squandered boatloads of money on public works and other such spending “stimulus,” with little long-term effect.
You may have not noticed the TVA gigantic hydro electric scheme-- certainly one of or the biggest hydro scheme in the world. Just funny that elec from the scheme produced the U238 which produced the first ABombs that conqured Japan and handed it over to US control full stop...
You may also realikse that Japan is not just an ally but full colony of the US still and maybe has been bled dry to support the imperial master. Case in point.. why haven't they sold their vast holding of USDebt to fund public works or offset taxes? Why indeed? You would be amazed that the world works as its intended to -- small man suffer......
