The reason we can't spend our way out of the recession is that people don't earn enough money anymore. That is the essence of the problem. Its not about interest rates or money creation or 'malinvestment' as the Austrian loons like to say. Its about globalization bringing down wages to the point where the only way consumer spending can be maintained is through debt. This is just the result of competition from cheaper labor markets working its way through the system.

Talk bout Nixon! In 1971, aaah!71. He c's the war in Nam as unwinable, him and his cronnies say behind closed doors. How r we gonna pay 4 this Blunder? Aaah! Take us off the gold standard,#1 and in 73-74 when the war is a wash. Aaah, all of a sudden there's and Oil shortage that came out of nowhere. Is'nt that intresting? Once again, the "simpletons" don't get it, but there gonna get it! There gonna get hit with a decade of stag. as well as inflation never seen b4 in my short life time on this planet. 2 pay 4 the blunders of our politicans! Not 2 say "60K worth of young lives gone 4 good." Act 2, 35 yrs later is about 2 start. Like Bill says were're all doomed! "Yikes, no double Yikes!"

Well put. By the way, with all of our Congress and Senate feeding at the trough of future tax-payer income, is it any wonder that we are suffering from an ailment called the Swine Flu?
