Re "The Dollar's Days are Numbered"

Every time I read your analyses, I get more worried. That doesn't mean "paralyzed," no: My family and I are setting up as big a garden as we can as fast as we can, we'll shortly be building a chicken coop as a source of eggs & meat, we've laid in dried goods in our "cold room" and we're working on adding solar & wind (we're on a ridge top), even though we have firewood right now for the next two winters.

Our finances are another matter, especially since it'll be next to impossible for us to become 100% self-sufficient anytime soon --- and we're far from urban supply centers, meaning we're gasoline-dependent. If our dollar's days are indeed numbered and if, say, the Chinese-Russian-U.N. scheme for a "new international reserve currency" does come to fruition as a result of a dollar collapse, what worries us is the effect that might have even on supposedly safe-haven equities such as Loew's (L).

Assume, for a moment, our dollar is trashed, assume, God forbid, we actually get into anything remotely approaching "Zimbabwe-style" hyperinflation, how on earth do you picture even "rock-solid" American companies and their equities coming out of THAT kind of maelstrom???

Buying gold coins sounds risky to us: If we ever had to USE those coins to buy or barter, in a really chaotic situation we figure that'd only mark our home as a robbery target. Going to cash under a mattress sure doesn't make sense, either. Our key question then, I guess, is what exactly we CAN do to try to salvage the value our dollar savings now still have....so our family can "come out on the other side" with that value intact, maybe, just maybe, even enhanced....even if that value were then denominated in "something else"..???

Might I suggest a Baloney Standard? It is already the coin of the realm and with the amount generated daily, we'll have a fortress of it that would put Fort Knox to shame. Once in a while, to combat Baloney Inflation, a few Regulators and their Political Handlers will actually have to tell the truth, in public....something we have not seen since the Mayor of Bedrock told Fred Flintstone he liked the cut of Wilma's jib.

Here we go again with the gold thing. The fly in the ointment is the problem of who is going be decide the value of gold and who is going to get it. Will it just be the Central Banks and will they confiscate the private gold that the gold bugs and those that corner the gold market by buying as much as they can at a low price with hopes it will go to 2000? The huge problem everyone touting gold ownership is the problem of the billions of people in the world and the gold stocks that are available. You can bet the Central Banks will make certain they control the price of gold and will probably make certain they will be the only ones with the gold.
The really only thing that will work given the population densities will be sea shells. Now I happen to have a lot of shells that I will sell you. Better get in on the start of something really big. These shells could go to 5000 US. They are selling cheap right now but as a trading item they can't be beat.

Bill. I am glad you had a chance to see Granada, but sad to see your tour guide was the wrong one. You must not forget the Muslims invaded Spain, by force. They killed, changed the social & political structures.......Of course after 700 years of accupancy they did good things, but do not miss the focus, pls. Would you like your country to be invaded for a math lesson?

the last studies which i read about reported a time lag of 12-18 months between fed actions and results (price increases)....if i recall, the studies were done in the 1990s/early 2000s and looked at 1960s-1980s/90s usa data....

i do not know if computerization has any impact on these changes but given that the banks create money ex nihilo i suspect that there is minimal impact since the long pole in the tent is human action rather than exchange of data.

The Scandinavian countries have no deficits - incredible but true - maybe strong currencies longer term?
After a period of deflation in the US and EU, inflation will pick up the first in the US. My statistics tell me this will happen within one year, as developments in global economies nowadays unfold much faster then in last Depression.

well it appears that the chinese are starting to move aggressively to replace the dollar as a reserve currency....argentina and china are about ready to sign an agreement replacing the dollar with the yuan....

as this trend accelerates i would suspect that the demand for dollars would start to subside resulting in downward pressure on the dollar. of course this will not happen overnight but chinese time horizons have never been short....

now i have no expectation that the chinese communists are any more virtuous than the american banksters but this will eventually force americans to lower their standards to corruption from absolute corruption.

the real solution is a gold standard but no country will accept that discipline until their hands are forced.

If you have ever looked at how a regular, harmonic wave function degenerates into complete chaos, you would notice towards the end, it swings increasingly wildly from one extreme to another.

Thus, we had inflation 6 months ago only to have deflation now before hyperinflation will be upon us in who knows when. What follows will be chaos, I suppose.

By the way, when the last emir left the Alhmabra, his mother was said to have scolded him, 'Son, go ahead and cry like a woman, since you didn't fight like a man,' or something like that. So, I guess if the dollar is going down, it must not go down without a fight.

Bill, Franco wasn't the rebel leader ; he was the fascist headman. The rebeldes were leftwingers. German pilots honed their skills flying for Franco. You feel 'sorry' for the Moors ? Do you think you would have been welcome in Granada if the Islamic mullahs were in charge ? Who do you think the Moors were? I wish you well :-) DBM
