I loved Bill's Comments about the house his friends built. We would like to do that here in rural TX but nowadays AIRPLANES fly over your property and photograph so that no stone can go unturned in their (county tax appraisers) ravenous desire for property taxes. I'm sure I'd get nailed for failing to file a building permit, too, as well as back taxes. SO, we're looking for a rural property w/ an old farmhouse to restore. They are typcically on the tax roles for only, say, $100/yr.

Back in the dark ages, I recall Japan entering the world market. Their workers would get paid by "bowls of rice" as my dad would say. He also said, sooner or later they will want a TV and a car. Then the Japanese will have to pay their workers realistically. China is headed down the same path, just forty years later.

" You get it from saving money…which is then invested in new tools that increase output.

More output = more earnings = more spending power = real economic growth."

It's like the story of the chicken and the egg, isn't it. If nobody is buying, there's no need to invest in increasing output, huh.

LAGirl it is hard to be nimbly and when it comes to investing nothing is for sure.
I read Bill's columns to counteract the polly-anne world of CNBC and such. The bottom-line reality is we in the Western World have lost the competition for jobs to China. Are we prepared to work in the same horrid conditions, same long hours for the same meger wages to get those jobs back?

Bill's probably right about the potential for a dollar rally before a dollar rout, but who can trade that nimbly?
