Not to sound like a naive, blindly optimistic American, but "can" America have another comeback in it? Honestly though, I feel us Americans are raised with an almost culturally infused sense of American exceptionalism. Sometimes this can be good, and sometimes this can be very bad like in this case. Now that Obama is trying to rally non-China Asian nations economically, I'm starting to think this could be a very good start to a Bismarckian approach of balancing power, or again the US could be stuck holding the ball through military security, like we did for the Europeans a.k.a. NATO. No offense of course, but that how it seems to be. Also, China is going to have more money to buy out Western firms, grab more of our high technology and so on. Yes, in the end, it looks like the good ol' Bush administration sent us on the beginning of a "decline", but I still say this has yet to be seen. Even if we lose our top spot, at least we still remain a "truly" free people. I can't say the same for China and I wonder if in the near future that will come back to haunt them. Just remember, China has to keep their economic growth up and if it stalls or starts sliding, they're might be heavy consequences internally, and in turn if their "bubble" bursts, that can be awful for the global economy, as well. It's going to be an interesting century, indeed. So much for "Project for a New American Century report" that Cheney and others had back in 91', where they planned on invading Iraq like they did, but hey who knows. Anyways, this was a great article to read, and honestly, I'd be really happy if we did stop being the "world police", and start investing more in our own country. At the end of the day America exported globalization and more open markets, and now it's come back to bite it in it's ass, and we're just starting to realize that. Now, I think we're going to have to work alot harder to stay competitive and strong, that's for sure.
