Ron Paul Rebukes Michael Moore on Healthcare and Gov’t Spending

11/06/09 Stockholm, Sweden – In case you missed it last week, Ron Paul was on Larry King Live as a follow up and rebuttal to a Michael Moore interview. The discussion covers healthcare and government spending in all its various forms. It’s useful to see Paul’s perspective because it’s so unique in the US Congress.

This video has come to our attention via The Daily Bail, and the site describes it as the best Ron Paul interview they’ve seen.

Wall, Ron Paul said health care is not a right. Well, it’s not a right – meaning fundamental constitutional right like liberty, etc.

But like many critical and essential services of society, the public has to decide who is going to deliver them. Either they contract out to the government as a somewhat universal service, or to private firms as pay-as-needed.

Getting police and fire-fighting services is not a right. Public contracts out these to the government as universal services, paid for by taxes. Just like military, air traffic control, numerous quality-control services from government regulators. Even road construction and power utility.

If the public decides basic health care should be universal then they should contract it out to the government and fund for it from taxes. It’s not a right. Simply a purchase agreement.

All these talks of the evils of socialism simply by have purchase agreement are pretty dumb. Hay the banks are the ultimate capitalism in action – and look what they did.

More political double speak. You can’t trust the government says the government official. Its the “corporations” fault or not. Let the “free” market do things. Its that rotten “socialism” or not. There really is nothing free about the market. Just another rat race.

In response to, “Hay the banks are the ultimate capitalism in action – and look what they did.”, How is the federal govt. giving banks billions of dollars to bankers, capitalism in action. They were going out of business & rightly so. Now we subsidize the most irresponsible of the bunch too keep them in business, while they continue to waste money and still go bankrupt. That is not capitalism.

Ron Paul is wrong on health care. Millions don’t have health care and can’t go to the doctor, only the emergency room. Guess what, they will bill you for $1000’s for your visit instead of $100 for a doctor visit. If you have any savings, its gone! Health care should be on a service model like Fire and Police, not on a for profit model. It works in many countries.

This is just more Republican bull. Swine flu vaccine? Would there be any vaccine if private industry had t do it? Most likely no. The reason for there not being enough is simple, there was not enough time or capacity. Most vaccines are made by foreign companies. I don’t agree with everything Moore says and Senator Paul is right on our military bases. The military budget is $680 billion a year yet we can’t have health care for all. I would greatly prefer a single payer system for efficiency but that won’t happen here.
