A minor question: Why doesn't the United States take over the Federal reserve, and its operations? The it could itself lend money to the banks at interest, and I would no longer have to pay taxes! We'd be in no worse shape than we are, but we would have cut out an unnecessary middleman and I would no longer have to pay taxes!

Hey Mogambo, have you ever done a story about how the US gov't fudges the GDP, what with imputed "production" from people that own their own houses and the value of goods like computers being hedonically adjusted upward?

This seems to be a pretty well kept secret that makes the deficits as a % of REAL GDP even worse.

I love you, Gu. Can I call you Gu?

I am not at all ashamed of you. In fact, I sit in slack jawed amazement at how you are being paid for doing the same thing every day. I admire that. You leave the clutches of your craven brood, motor to work in a mid-eighties Corolla, sit at a desk between attempts to look up the skirts of the various female personnel present today. Of course, you must sharpen your pencil. All the better for dropping and peeking when picking up.

Please, forward my resume to your boss. I can do what you do. Maybe not better, but interesting just the same.
