"But where’s the surprise?" Surely the surprise is obvious, at least I'd be surprised if the Fed actually achieved their goal of causing inflation

I love them too, but I'm always left with questions! Such as...

If deflation is going to squeeze inflationary expectations away, isn't gold a short term risk? Wouldn't government or corporate bonds from somewhere safe be a much better idea? If there is to be a bout of deflation, then the future earnings of bonds would be valued more highly, so when everyone thinks deflation is the disaster du jour then sell the strong bonds and buy into weak gold just before it starts gathering a head of steam.

David, I couldn't agree more. Reading Bonner's kaleidoscopic insights, which are a highlight of my day, has made me a junkie for economic philosophy as well as a much more interesting dinner guest.

Bill just keeps getting better at his entertaining analyses that offer interesting writing, wit, and insight. How long can this go on? Who else weaves great stories and anecdotes into economic analysis that challenges us to consider counter-arguments to herd thinking?
