Harry you remind me of all those cheer leaders talking about how housing would only go up, ignoring all data suggesting it would go down. You keep on buying your bogus sticks and I will stick to things that are real, like Gold, Silver, Oil, Food.

The only recovery Harry knows anything about is his weekly meeting.

Stay strong, man.

Hey, this Wall Street reckoning reminds me of a science fiction parody I saw recently. I don't remenmber the name of it but it was all about ugly, green Marsonians telling everybody how peaceful they were while at the same time destroying one trusting earthling after the other.

Any gross rental yield below 8% is not enough for a bottom. The Northeast is still offering meager yields, L.A and Florida much better, but the flat-lining bottom is a long way off, and risk is still high from vacancies, foreclosures, maintenance costs, and still exorbitant property taxes.

I think a rental property is a decent place to put your money at this point. I personally can't think of anything better, so I'll be buying probably this year or next. At least, like gold, the value never falls to zero, and at this point you can at least cover your costs with the income. Can't say that about stocks or cash.

Home is where the heart is. A sanctuary and a place to raise ones' family. But that was so long ago, before a house became a commodity to flip for a quick buck. Or if one was willing, you could cash in on an equity line of credit as home prices soared. Beats the hell out of saving the old fashion way.

Another great investment tip was borrowing against your house and putting that money into the stock market. Wasn't that a wonderful investment strategy? Lose your home and get trampled on as the bulls run to the exits. (How fast can you run Harry?)

Buying a modest house and paying off the mortgage may sound dull, but whether prices go up or prices go down, one will always have a place to call home.
