One major thing that is down that no one seems to make any comment about is trust--as in trust in financial institutions. I'd say that just two or three years ago just about everyone (except maybe the bankers and financial brokers themselves) had a basic trust in the financial system, but today? Today I'd say we use the banks but we cut the cards, every time. And if things get worse, trust may disappear entirely. Maybe you all should also track trust the way you track job losses.

The other thing that I and a lot of people I know wonder about is just what is going on with the stock market. Are bankers and brokers making money or trying to buy and sell so as to keep up appearances? And who are the people investing all this money? Is the Fed or the government or secret wealthsters doing this? It sure seems odd for the markets to go up so much when things are obviously pretty bad.
