We're in deflation Mr Mogambo,

The FED might be printing money, but the banks are hoarding it and the consumer is unwilling to borrow. So we're in deflation and NO the FED won't monetize the debt yet as the bond market would slaughter the remains of the global economy plus the FED would have to print 25 trillion dollars to be able to inflate.

Could one of you please comment on the stupidity of Forbes and others blaming the mark-to-market accounting rules for the terrible economic decisions that have been made (and are still being made). Mark-to-market is the only tool to use. Without it, the banks will try their best to offload their portfolios onto shareholders or worse - the Treasury; at grossely inflated prices. Would be nice if we all could live in Make Believe Land, but we don't!!! If it's worth nothing, call it ZERO and let's move on.

A while back one of you gurus, perhaps the MG himself, speculated that gold would rise above $900, then sometime soon another weather system would take it down considerably below $900 (that drop depending on how far above $900 it went) before shooting up again later in 2009 or so. Is this pattern still expected and due to what "event" or climate change?
