Even if we do not see hyperinflation - gold and silver do not errode at a constant 6% a year like the dollar does. A few bars in the vault inspires more confidence than the actions of our reckless government.

Hope you're not going by the fatally flawed CPI numbers when you are pronouncing "no inflation", Bill. I buy the groceries and pay the bills at my house. My house insurance was up 30% upon renewal this summer, groceries are up on average (breakfast cereal, milk, honey, bread, beef, you name it), my internet service just went up 5%. New/increased taxes are on the horizon. Energy prices are down year-on-year but that is already turning. Monetary theory says prices should drop when money supply or money velocity fall. I'm not holding my breath.
Precious metals & producers are definitely part of my plan to survive oncoming inflation.

My comments regarding Bill Jenkins analyses apply also to those of Bill Bonner...always 'on song' as they say in British football (soccer) circles.

I agree with Bloomer on the utility of silver--and would say more specifically, liquidity and safety. Our precious gov will be less likely to try to confiscate silver.

Re: Bill Bonner--I submit that the Fed has always confidently predicted control of inflation, but why? Perhaps because they are providing money to banks which are easily controlled.

When the rabble begins to get a share of the money, the Fed control is lost and inflation will devour our economy.

I hold gold not because I am worried about inflation, but rather because I think there is a significant probability of some form of systemic failure caused by a black swan that will surprise us all. Stealing a quote from someone else, "We are building runways for black swans everywhere you look". These runways include exponential debt growth, peak oil, climate change, low food inventories, trade imbalances, and rising nationalism. Throw into this soup a sadly uninformed citizenry with corrupt leadership and gold looks pretty darn good to me.
