daddysteve is right....since the change to "mark-to-model" from "mark-to-market" the "market" has climbed against all reason...and probably will continue to do so.
It's a "traders" delight; not a good time for your 401k that is now probably a -401Z!
I go along mostly with Bill B. I've been a pessimist on this market since the early 1990's and with my own savings investments haven't lost a dime. It's not a huge amount but, invested in very conservative CD's I've actually gained in real dollars by living conservatively....I know inflation has eroded the nest egg, but you learn to "live within your means."
I see a definite decline by October of 09....that's historical....
These housing numbers don't mean spit.....As long as millions keep loosing their jobs housing will just shrink in newly built sold units but will look better than 2007...so what does that prove?
We are in for a long, long "bottom" whether we have reached it now or in 5 years.

Dear Harry, I, for one, am happy for you. Go forth and place your dollars at risk in the casino we call the market. If you can get to the street, peek next door at the Golden Slacks operation where their servers are co-domiciled with the exchange servers.

Buy, buy, buy, leverage your self to the freaking max in the sure knowledge of your capital gain.

I will pray for you.

Meanwhile, new home sales were up substantially. I'm sorry, I just can't buy your pessimistic outlook that appears to ignore all the positive reports lately showing that this recession did in fact end in May. The markets are reflecting that better news and starting to price stocks accordingly.
